INFORMATION FOR FAMILY MEMBERS
We know that having a family member with an addiction can devastate families. Years of lies, broken promises can tear families apart. Trust is easy to break and hard to restore. But with time, if a family member can get into long-term recovery, relationships can repair and trust can be rebuilt.
Families need their own recovery too. If you would like more help and advice for yourself please contact Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol & Drugs.
How can you refer your family members?
You cannot make a direct referral to River Garden Auchincruive, as people seeking our help to join our residential recovery community need to take the initiative to contact us directly to show their motivation to volunteer to join the project. However, we are happy to speak with you on the phone to discuss how you might encourage your loved one to apply to us for a place at River Garden Auchincruive. Simply contact us at Enquiries.
Access to a place at River Garden Auchincruive is free for those who are motivated to turn their lives around. Applicants do not require funding from Social Work or any other source. In return for a residential place, participants will be expected to contribute to the life of the community through voluntary work.
Who is the IFDAS River Garden Auchincruive community for?
River Garden Auchincruive is an asset-based programme for people who cannot manage to sustain long-term recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction in the wider community without more structure and support while they go through the early stages of recovery. Typically it will help people who lack recovery capital or who have had two or more unsuccessful attempts in sustaining their recovery following treatment episodes in the community or residential rehabilitation settings.
River Garden Auchincruive is not a residential drug/alcohol treatment facility or rehab centre (in the traditional sense). It will be a wellbeing community for people who have recently achieved a short period of abstinence, most usually following a treatment programme.
Although abstinence is a requirement for entry, we are happy to work with GPs and treatment providers and their patients to initiate the admissions process while a patient is reducing any substitute prescribing so that there is a seamless transition from treatment to River Garden Auchincruive, minimising the chance of relapse between completion of treatment and entering the project.
